Injured Beckham likely to miss World Cup
DAVID Beckham's World Cup dream was in tatters today.
The 34-year-old England star's playing future was plunged into doubt last night as he suffered serious damage to his Achilles tendon while playing for Italian club AC Milan.
England boss Fabio Capello, who commiserated with the player who now looks certain to be ruled out of the trip to South Africa this summer.
Beckham was hurt during Milan's Serie A encounter with Chievo without coming into contact with anyone else. He then limped distraught to the sidelines for treatment.
The multi-millionaire was understood to be flying to Finland today to have surgery.
