LIBRARIES across Hartlepool and east Durham are gearing up for an event dubbed a "learning revolution".
People can learn something new at the North East Learning Festival which will see a host of learning opportunities – from family history sessions and IT courses to reading groups and craft sessions – opened up to residents.
The events, with cost
s ranging from free sessions to £15, were launched by the Government to encourage people to get involved in the wide variety of informal learning opportunities available through libraries, museums and other community organisations.
Organisers say informal learning is not only a chance to learn new skills and meet people who share similar interests, it can also lead to new employment opportunities.
North East Society of Chief Librarians chairman Mark Freeman said: "As part of the North East Festival of Learning we're challenging everyone to learn something new, whether it's how to use Facebook and Twitter, trace their ancestors, or find out about the history of their local area.
"We've got some fantastic events and courses lined up over the coming months and we'd love to see as many people as possible getting involved."
