Two men were saved from drowning when they were plucked from the River Wear by Sunderland’s inshore lifeboat.

The boat was launched shortly after 9.20pm last night, Sunday, June 14, after reports of two men in difficulty near South Hylton.

The men were found on a mudbank and were given immediate medial care before being transferred to Sunderland Marina where they were assisted ashore by Coastguard Rescue Officers and RNLI Shore Crew and handed handed over to paramedics.
