Making money Hollywood-style

HOLLYWOOD is coming to South Tyneside with the launch of an Oscar-themed networking event for businesses.

Saints and Sinners – billed as "a practical yet fun business event" will be packed with advice and tips for new and existing businesses.

Now in its second year, and with seven events under its belt, this summer it takes inspiration from the glitz and glamour of the Oscars.

Experts will be on hand to offer advice to businesses at the event, including saintly tips from marketing speaker and marketer, Geoff Ramm, as well as sins to avoid in employment law from David Gibson, of Crutes Law Firm, and top financial tips from Shaun Fooy, from the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS).

The networking event, which takes place between 8.45am and noon on July 1 at the Customs House, in South Shields, is supported by South Tyneside Business Forum and sponsored by South Tyneside Means Business.

Mr Ramm, who has been in business for seven years, and is in demand to deliver his seminars around the UK as a marketing speaker, said: "Saints and Sinners is always an extremely popular event with people, and this year appears to be bigger than ever. We are expecting over 300 people.

"It's a completely free networking event, where people can learn new tips and techniques and walk away with dozens of ideas for new and existing business.

"Each year, we like to inject humour and fun into business and encourage interactive seminars with plenty of questions and feedback from people."

Mr Ramm has been described as the Billy Connolly and Peter Kay of marketing, for his unique observational take on marketing.

He said: "I can't wait to present again in South Tyneside. It is great to travel around the country sharing ideas with businesses, but there's always a special buzz within the business community in South Tyneside."

Joining Mr Ramm on stage will be David Gibson, partner at Crutes Law Firm, who will explain current and essential issues surrounding employment law.

He said: "Employment law is a complex subject for businesses to follow, but I will blow away some of the employment myths to make it easier for people to stay safe from their sins."

Shaun Fooy from Royal Bank Scotland will also provide saintly banking advice, from how to approach your bank for funding, to effective business plans and business growth.

Mr Ramm added: "This July, just to make it that little bit different, each of the hosts will be dressed in tuxedos in true Hollywood-style with hints, tips and ideas themed around the movies as well as life-sized Oscars to create a unique buzz for all those that attend."

A number of local businesses have also donated a range of prizes for this year's event including printers, health and beauty vouchers, professional photo sessions as well as a number of boxes of chocolates and champagne.

Michael Arnot, manager of the South Tyneside's Business Forum, said: "The Business Forum holds regular events where key speakers will share their experiences, as well as practical advice on a wide range of subjects.

"Saints and Sinners provides a wealth of business tips, which once implemented, can make a dramatic improvement to business performance.

"Bringing Saints and Sinners to South Tyneside is part of the Forum's response to local business asking for marketing and other support. It's definitely an event not to be missed!"

There are currently 100 places left available for the Saints and Sinners event.
