Extra trains for revellers
A TRAIN company is planning extra services for people taking in The Tall Ships Races.
Grand Central has revealed a string of extra late-night trains over the course of the four-day festival.
The company's public affairs manager Rupert Brennan Brown said: "Grand Central is delighted to be able to support The Tall Ships Races and we expect it to be a fantastic weekend for those visiting Hartlepool."
He said the expectation was that lots of people would attend the races and extra trains later into the evening would mean they can stay and enjoy the fun for longer.
Normal services will operate during the daytime.
But the following extra services will operate out of Hartlepool during the weekend.
Saturday, August 7.
9.11pm from Hartlepool to Darlington, arriving in Darlington at 9.50pm.
12.05am from Hartlepool to York, arriving at York at 1.20am.
10.32pm from Hartlepool to Sunderland, arriving at Sunderland at 10.56pm.
Sunday, August 8.
11.10pm from Hartlepool to York, arriving at York at 12.23am.
Monday, August 9.
9.11pm from Hartlepool to Darlington, arriving at Darlington at 9.50pm.
11.30pm from Hartlepool to York, arriving at York at 12.43am.
Rupert added: "We expect to be bringing people up to Hartlepool on the normal services.
"The idea is to provide later trains out of Hartlepool than we do normally to help people get back from Hartlepool to destinations like Darlington, Eaglescliffe and Northallerton.
"The expectation is that a lot of people will come up and we can provide services for them so that they can enjoy everything that is going on."
Around one million people are expected to attend the four-day festival which has highlights including live music, street theatre, and around 70 tall ships.
