The Flower Arrangements Society members, which meets monthly in All Saint's Church hall in Cleadon on the third Tuesday of the month, welcomed Karl Brunton to their February meeting. She gave a delightful demonstration entitled All Seasons.

Arrangements depicting Chinese New Year, St Patrick’s Day, Valentine’s Day and other spring events delighted members and their guests in the audience. Anyone can join the group at these meeting without obligation. Why not come along and enjoy a relaxed evening of chat and flower arranging hints and tips and some refreshment. Pam Alexander, area chairman of NAFAS, will be the guest demonstrator on March 15 at 7.30pm.

West Boldon Lodge Environmental Centre (on A184 just before Testo’s Roundabout, leaving West Boldon) will hold a quiz night this Friday. Doors open at 6.30pm and the quiz begins at 7pm. Teams of up to eight people are invited to help fundraise for the Boldon Bear Campaign for 2016. The main aim of the fundraising is to buy new equipment to improve the wonderful woodland around the centre and to engage more adults and children to the Lodge to help them better understand the importance of trees and the environment. Quiz is £2 per person, hot and cold refreshments are available but you are encouraged to bring your own including alcohol if you wish. Boldon Churches Together have arranged the following half hour Lenton services followed by a light lunch of sandwiches or soup and a bun on the following Thursdays at noon during Lent: February 25, East Boldon Methodist Church on the corner of Bridle Path; March 3, Sacred Heart RC Church on New Road, Boldon Colliery; March 10, United Reformed Church on Front Street in East Boldon and finally March 17 in S. Nicholas Church in West Boldon Village. A donation towards the cost of the lunch is requested, which will be shared equally between CAFOD and Christian Aid.

Roma Garbutt will give a talk and presentation to members of the Boldon History Group tonight at 7pm on Europe Ascendant in the function room of The Grey Horse in East Boldon. All are welcome. Major Anthony Tate will be the speaker on March 29 and his subject will be War Horse Ride – WW1 Centenary’

Boldon Miners and Community Banner Group will meet in The Robert’s Room of Boldon Community Association Centre in New Road in Boldon Colliery on Tuesday, March 1, at 7.30pm. Anyone interested in the work of the group will be warmly welcomed at any of the meetings. The agenda will include arrangements for attendance of the group and members of the community to the Durham Miners’ Gala in July.

Afternoon tea will be held in East Boldon Methodist Church, on the corner of Bridle Path, on Wednesday, April 27, from 2pm- 3.30pm. The afternoon will be hosted by the ladies of Enid Bond’s Flower Arrangement class, which is held weekly in the hall. Floral arrangements to buy and raffled are always an attractive feature of this annual afternoon tea along with other sales tables and attractions.

A ballroom/sequence dance and bingo will be held this Friday in The Shack in Boldon Colliery. Admittance is £2.

Boldon Auction Galleries on Front Street, East Boldon, will hold its next antique and interiors sale on Wednesday, March 16, at 10am. Viewing will be the previous Saturday from 10am to 1pm, the Tuesday from 2pm-6pm and the morning of the sale from 9am.

Local Folk Band Seganainm will be playing at the Alberta Social Club, near Jarrow Metro Station, this Thursday at the Friends of the Irish Night. The band will host the Folk Club at The Grey Horse in East Boldon on March 3 at 7.30pm and at The Boldon Cricket Club on Sunderland Road in East Boldon on the March 10 at 8pm. Everyone is invited to these free events. Unfortunately due to the closure of Bedes World Museum the band will not now be playing there this summer as previously mentioned. Members of the would like to thank everyone who came to visit them there last year.

Iyengar Yoga classes for beginners and improvers in Boldon Community Centre, New Road, Boldon Colliery, restarted last month. The class meet on Monday and Friday mornings from 9.30am-11.15am and Tuesday evenings from 7pm-8.45pm. Contact the centre on 5368085 for more details or Trish on 1460563.
