Two taken to hospital after car smash

TWO people were taken to hospital following a collision involving two cars.
The incident, which took place in Cotswold Place, off Pennine Drive, Peterlee, happened just before 7pm last night.Two appliances from Peterlee fire station were sent to the scene after reports of people trapped in the cars.

However, everybody was accounted for when the fire crews arrived at the scene.

The cars involved in the collision were a red Nissan Micra and a silver MG sports car.

A 39-year-old woman, who had a young female passenger in the Nissan, was fitted with a protective neck brace and placed on a spine board.

The MG had two men inside. One was placed on a protective spine board.

All the casualties were taken to Sunderland Royal hospital for checks.

The girl wasn't injured but was taken to the hospital with the woman driver.

A parked van was also damaged in the incident.Watch manager Colin Drysdale, of Peterlee Fire, said: "We received a report to say there were people trapped under the cars but that wasn't the case when we arrived."

A spokesman for Durham Police confirmed they were investigating.
