TWO pregnant women were taken to hospital following a crash near a primary school.
A third woman was also treated after the accident outside Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Primary School in Rievaulx Avenue, Billingham.

The two expectant mums, in their early 20s, were rear passengers in the Land Rover Discovery, which was invol
ved in a collision with a Vauxhall Vectra.

The third woman, a 19-year-old front-seat passenger, had to be cut out of her car by firefighters from Billingham Fire Station and was taken to the University Hospital of North Tees suffering from neck injuries.

The pregnant women were treated for shock by paramedics at the scene, and taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.

The male driver was unhurt in the incident, which took place around 3.20pm yesterday.

Steve Walsh, watch manager at Billingham Fire Station which sent two appliances to the accident, along with another from Stockton Fire Station, said: "The road was closed for about half an hour while we stabilised the vehicle and extricated the casualty.

"There wasn't much damage to the vehicles themselves. It was the severe impact that caused the vehicles to move."

Sergeant Neil Walker, of Cleveland Police, said the cause of the crash is being investigated.
