FOUR men arrested after a running street battle between two gangs have been bailed while a 26-year-old remains in hospital with serious head injuries.
Police said about a dozen men wielding golf clubs, baseball bats and spiked pieces of wood came to blows over the Bank Holiday.

Four men, ranging from their 20s to their mid-40s, were arrested and taken to Peterlee Police Station and have now been
bailed.

But detectives are still waiting to hear from others believed to be involved in the fighting in Easington Colliery.

Police described the scene in the early hours of Monday morning as a "running battle" as two mobs fought each other along Cornwall Street, Cardiff Street and Corbett Street.

The badly injured man was taken to Newcastle General Hospital, and his condition is described as stable.

A 45-year-old man suffered head and neck injuries and was taken to the Sunderland Royal Hospital and later released.

Three other men, aged 42, 33, and 21, suffered minor facial injuries and were taken to the University Hospital of Hartlepool and discharged.

A Durham Police spokesman said: "We can now confirm the four men arrested on suspicion of violent disorder have been released on police bail until September 26 pending further inquiries."
