I HOPE those deluded individuals who support ID cards took careful note when Home Secretary Jacqui Smith unveiled the format for the planned ID cards, which we will all soon be obliged to carry.
For months press reports have presented their purpose as being 'prevention of terrorism and prevention of identity theft'.

Alongside this spin we invariably saw a picture of the planned card bearing a Union Flag symbol with the legend 'UK ID CARD'
.

Myself and many others have long warned that this planned "permit to exist" emanates from the EU and any ID card scheme would never bear our flag but rather the symbols of the EU.

This prediction was proved precisely right when the cards were revealed on September 25. No Union Flag, no mention of the UK. Instead a design incorporating the EU ring of stars interwoven into a motif involving the letters E and U.

Q.E.D.

Now that the EU dimension to ID cards is confirmed, I wonder how long it will be before the avidly pro-EU Liberal Democrats, who presently oppose ID cards on libertarian grounds, change their tune and support them. Watch this space.

As for the Tories, you can bet your boots their opposition to ID cards will remain purely a matter of cost. I'll guarantee they will never allow the EU factor to form part of their opposition.

Can I please urge every reader to wipe the sleep from their eyes and realise the dangers to our liberties and freedom posed by this "fifth column" Labour government.

Trusting the other two main parties doesn't offer too much hope either, does it.
