Correcting Mr Allan on asbestos
Published Date:
01 October 2008
I FIND once again I have to write to correct Mr Allan (Mail, September 29) on the subject of asbestos.
He says there was no evidence of danger to anyone from asbestos fibres.
I was once again shocked by your letter. You see, a simple search of the web, with a few words like the name of a landfill site and possibly the word 'fine' at the end, found me on the Environmental Agency web site.
Now, Mr Allan, if your information is right and there was no evidence please could you tell me two things:
Firstly, why did they fine this company not once but twice. Secondly, how come the people at this agency say differently to yourself on this web site.
Now if I was someone sitting on the fence about this subject I know who I would believe and I honestly don't think it would be you.
You see that agency says - and I quote - that the asbestos was not covered and there was no dampening or wetting to prevent fibres being released into the air.
Also the words "potential to harm workers and public" are printed on this site to do with this offence.
Mr Allan, who do you think you are kidding? Because it's certainly not me.
S Booth,
Hartlepool.
