A MAN tried to hide in a nursing home following a dramatic car chase.
The drama unfolded when he barged his way into Manor Park Nursing Home, on Catcote Road, Hartlepool, following the town centre pursuit.

To escape capture, he hid in the home, which caters for 58 elderly and disabled people.

But his efforts prov
ed unsuccessful when he was caught after a search of the building.

Staff at the home said Tuesday's incident was dealt with quickly by police, and the safety of residents was never in danger.

A spokesman for Cleveland Police said: "At 10am, police were chasing a car.

"It pulled in to the car park of the nursing home and a man ran inside.

"We have arrested a 35-year-old man on suspicion of driving whilst disqualified, making off from police and criminal damage."

Manor Park, provides nursing care to 58 elderly and disabled people including those with terminal illness.

It opened in 1997, and is run by Four Seasons Health Care, which also manages a number of other homes in Hartlepool.

A spokesman for Four Seasons Health Care said: "A minor incident was dealt with by police in a matter of minutes.

"The smooth running of the home was not affected in any way."
